Let's know the rules of  Subject Verb Agreement

Most Important Rules for competitive exams:
None of her twin sisters have not come to attend the class. (wrong)❌

None of her twin sisters has come to attend the class, (correct)✔️

None of + plural noun + singular verb:

Examples:

  • None of the students has completed their home assignment.
  • None of the candidates is present in the examination hall.

Collective nouns like family, jury, team take singular verb.

  • The T 20 team have won the match. (wrong)❌
  • The T 20 team has won the match. (correct)✔️
Collective noun acts as one unit, so we use singular noun.

" Many '" means plural but " Many a " is always used as singular.

Many a participant. .......applied for the post.

Ans: has

Quick Tricks for All Aspirants: Most Important

Don't just read Grammar - see it, understand it, and remember forever.
๐Ÿ‘‰Rules : Learn fast, remember forever

Examples:

  • Each student has shown the project.
  • Each student and teacher has come.

Singular verb is used with Each, Every, Everyone, Someone, Nobody.

  • Neither the captain not the players are at fault.
  • Either Ranjan or his parents have done this.

According to rule:

When two subjects are joined together by Either.... or;
Neither.... nor the verb agrees with the second subject(nearest subject)
Here, Subject - captain ( first subject)
the players - second subject

In the first example:

Nearest subject - the players (plural)
That's why, we have used the plural subject.
In the same manner, in the second example,
Ranjan is first subject and parents ( second subject)
Nearest subject is plural so we have used
Either Ranjan or his parents have done this.

Generally, we use as well as in place of 'and'. But if we don't know the rules,
we are unable to solve such type of questions.
  • He as well as his friends is going to the mall.

Let's know the rules:

When two subjects are joined with phrases like:

  • as well as
  • in addition to
  • together with
  • along with
The verb agrees with the first subject, not the second one.

In this sentence:

Main subject sentence is ' He'
Phrase 'as well as his friends '
So, we use verb according to main verb because 'as well as his friends
is used as extra information.
