Memory Tricks for Antonyms
Use the following tricks to learn opposite words faster for competitive exams.
Pair Method:
This is the best method, so I suggest you learn always in pairs.
For instance:
Words - Antonyms
- Antique - Modern
- Benefactor - Enemy
- Reveal - Conceal
- Rapid - Slow
- Dormant - Active
standalone vocabulary.
Story Method:
Try to create a short story and connect two opposite words.
For example:
There was a huge space to play outside, but the house was quite
small inside.
Here, I have used two antonyms:
Huge - Small
Outside - Inside
Visual Trick:
We can create mental pictures, so imagine:
For example:
According to the Aesop's Fable- The grasshopper is supposed to be lazy.
while the ant is a diligent creature.
Diligent - Lazy
Prefix Trick:
Prefix: Un
Example: Lock - Unlock
Prefix: Im
Example: Perfect - Imperfect
Prefix: In
Example: External - Internal
Prefix: Dis
Example: Appear - Disappear
Daily Revision:
- As we know, revision is the key to success.
- So, learn at least 5 words (antonym pairs daily.
- At the same time, revise 5 words (antonym pairs daily.
- Use these 5 antonym pairs in sentence.
